Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – The Philadelphia 76ers signed their first-
round draft pick, guard Andre Iguodala, to a contract on Friday. As per club
policy, terms were not disclosed.
Iguodala was the ninth overall selection in the 2004 NBA Draft. He played two
seasons at Arizona and was an All-Pac 10 honoree during his sophomore campaign
when he averaged 12.9 points, 8.4 boards and 4.9 assists per game.
Iguodala also posted a school-record three triple-doubles this past season
and became the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounds
(253), assists (147) and steals (48) in the same year.
With the signing of Iguodala, Philadelphia became the first team to ink its
first-round pick. In other news, the 76ers completed their coaching staff with
the hiring of Joe Gallagher.
Gallagher joins the club as an assistant after serving in the same capacity
with the Boston Celtics the last two seasons. He spent more than one campaign
with new Philadelphia head coach Jim O’Brien.
