Doleac signs with the Heat

Miami, FL (Sports Network) – The Miami Heat secured a backup for newly-
acquired center Shaquille O’Neal on Thursday, signing free-agent big man
Michael Doleac. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are really excited to have Michael Doleac on board,” said Heat head coach
Stan Van Gundy.

Doleac split time last season between the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets,
averaging 4.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 72 games. In 396 career games with
Orlando, Cleveland, New York and Denver, the 6-11 Doleac has posted averages
of 5.6 points and 3.6 boards.

“I think he was one of the best big men on the market this year,” Van Gundy
added. “He can back-up Shaquille and at other times will play along side him.
We feel with Shaquille and Michael at center we have now fortified the
toughest position in the league.”
