Okur signs with Jazz
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) – Forward Mehmet Okur signed with the Jazz
on Tuesday after the Detroit Pistons declined to match Utah’s reported six-
year, $50 million offer.
The 25-year-old Okur played 71 regular-season games for the world champion
Pistons last season and averaged 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per outing. His
numbers dropped off in the postseason, however, as he averaged only 3.7 points
and 2.8 boards over 22 contests.
The 6-11 Okur was originally selected by Detroit in the second round (38th
pick overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft. In 143 career regular-season games, he
has averaged 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.
