Hornets ink veteran Rogers
New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) – The New Orleans Hornets signed free agent
forward Rodney Rogers on Tuesday as well as the club’s second round draft
pick, Tim Pickett.
Rogers, who played the last two seasons with the New Jersey Nets, averaged
7.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 69 games last season.
In 15 starts with the Nets he posted 14.9 points to go along with 7.5
rebounds per game.
“Rodney will be a great addition to our team,” said General Manager Allan
Originally selected by the Denver Nuggets with the ninth overall pick in the
1993 NBA Draft, the veteran has spent time with the Nuggets, the L.A.
Clippers, Phoenix, Boston and New Jersey. The well-traveled 11-year pro won
the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award back in 1999-00 with the Suns.
Pickett, who is out of Florida State, was the 44th overall pick in the 2004
“Tim has a great chance to make a strong contribution to our team this
season,” said Bristow.
Pickett was named First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference and earned ACC All-
Defensive Team honors, averaging 16.5 points with 4.5 rebounds. He
finished his career at Florida State as the school’s all-time leader in three-
point field goals made per game (3.1).
