El Segundo, CA (Sports Network) – The Los Angeles Lakers Monday exercised a
fourth-year contract option on forward Caron Butler. In addition, the club has
declined to pick up the same option on guard Kareem Rush.

Butler was acquired over the summer in the trade that sent All-Star center
Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat. Los Angeles also obtained Lamar Odom,
Brian Grant and a first-round draft pick in the deal.

The 24-year-old Butler averaged 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in 68 contests for
Miami last season. He was a member of the NBA All-Rookie First Team following
the 2002-03 campaign.

Rush will also be entering his third season in the league. He appeared in 72
contests last season for the Lakers and averaged 6.4 points per outing.
