New Jersey Nets Team Report – November 4

=== New Jersey Nets Team Report – November 4 ===

(Sports Network) – The New Jersey Nets got their season off on a losing note
on Wednesday with a 100-77 loss to the Miami Heat at the Meadowlands.

Richard Jefferson led the way for the Nets with 19 points and Zoran Planinic
came off the bench to score 11. Alonzo Mourning, who was forced into
retirement early last season because of his chronic kidney condition, had
seven points in 14 minutes in his first game with a new kidney.

The loss marks what could be the beginning of a very long season for the Nets,
who pared the payroll under new owner Bruce Ratner, dismantling a team that
went to the NBA Finals in consecutive seasons in 2002 and ’03.

Gone are rugged forward Kenyon Martin and veteran shooter Kerry Kittles to
Denver and the Clippers, respectively. Not to mention that All-Star point
guard Jason Kidd is expected to be sidelined until December after offseason
knee surgery.

Among the new starters for the Nets are Jacque Vaughn, who had four points and
three assists in 22 minutes, and Eric Williams, who missed all six of his shot
attempts and was scoreless with four fouls in 25 minutes.

The loss for New Jersey was its most lopsided opening night home loss since
joining the NBA.

New Jersey returns to action on Friday when they battle the Chicago Bulls at
the United Center.
