(Sports Network) – The Bobcats couldn’t get a win in their first-ever game
Thursday night, dropping a 103-96 decision to the Washington Wizards at
Charlotte Coliseum.

Emeka Okafor, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, led expansion
Charlotte with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Primoz Brezec and Steve
Smith added 15 points apiece in the loss. Gerald Wallace had 11 points, while
Jason Kapono and Melvin Ely scored 10 apiece for the Bobcats.

The teams played close for most of the game, but the Wizards took control with
a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter.

Jarvis Hayes drained an 18-foot jumper just inside the 7:00 mark that gave
Washington the lead for good at 87-85. Juan Dixon followed with a three-point
play moments later, Hayes hit another jumper and Antawn Jamison added a bucket
to make it 92-85 with less than six minutes remaining.
