(Sports Network) – Antawn Jamison scored a team-high 27 points and hauled in
10 rebounds while Gilbert Arenas added 25 points, as Washington defeated
Boston in overtime, 110-105, on Wednesday at the MCI Center.
Larry Hughes contributed 21 points with 12 boards and Jared Jeffries netted 15
off the bench for Washington, which snapped a two-game slide despite blowing a
17-point first-half lead. Jarvis Hayes finished with 14 points in the win.
Jamison’s jumper nearly two minutes into overtime gave the Wizards the lead
for good as Washington jumped out to a 106-100 lead courtesy of a 6-0 spurt to
start the frame. Boston did not get a field goal until there were 13 seconds
left in the extra session and missed its first six shots in overtime.
Forward Michael Ruffin had a miserable game for the Wizards. The first player
off their bench, Ruffin played 19 minutes, did not score and committed five
Jamison has scored more than 20 points in six of Washington’s eight games this
season. He leads the Wizards in scoring (23.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg).
On the injury front, guard Steve Blake, recovering from surgery on his right
ankle in September, took part in a full practice for the first time this week
and is expected to be activated for Saturday’s game against New Jersey.
