(Sports Network) – The battle for Los Angeles took place on Wednesday, as the
surprising Clippers were defeated by the Lakers, 103-89, at the Staples
Center. The Lakers were the host for this contest.

Corey Maggette scored a game-high 24 points for the Clippers, who were off to
their best start in nine years at 5-3 coming into the game. Bobby Simmons
contributed 23 points with eight rebounds, while Elton Brand contributed 14
points and 11 boards in the setback.

The Clippers went to the charity stripe just 11 times and made nine attempts
while the Lakers converted 20-of-24 shots from the line.

Forward Chris Wilcox finished with 14 points and nine boards for the Clippers,
who scored 21 second-chance points to the Lakers’ one.

Maggette has scored more than 20 points in six of the Clippers’ nine games
this season. He leads the Clippers in scoring at 21.3 points per game.

The Clippers are off until Saturday when they host Yao Ming and the Houston
