(Sports Network) – Eddie Griffin had a season-high 23 points off the bench to
lead the Minnesota Timberwolves over the hapless New Orleans Hornets, 99-94,
on Saturday.

Griffin connected on 10-of-14 shots from the field, including 3-of-4 from
behind the arc, and grabbed seven rebounds. Minnesota committed just eight
turnovers in the contest as it improved to 5-3.

Kevin Garnett added 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for the
Timberwolves, who never trailed in this one. They scored eight of the game’s
first 10 points and maintained the lead the rest of the way.

Garnett hurt the right side of what appeared to be his collarbone when he was
fouled on a dunk, but eventually returned and played through the pain.

Minnesota led 46-37 at the intermission, and extended it to 70-60 entering the
final 12 minutes. In the fourth, the Timberwolves extended the lead to as many
as 16, at 78-62, on a Fred Hoiberg jumper with just under nine minutes left.
But Newly acquired Matt Freije of the Hornets made things a bit interesting in
the waning moments, as he canned a trio of three- pointers down the stretch to
get the crowd on its feet.
