(Sports Network) – The Los Angeles Lakers were handed a 109-106 setback by
their archrivals, the Sacramento Kings, on Friday night at the Staples Center.
Peja Stojakovic had 26 points, including the final four of the game, to lead
the Kings to just their eighth win in 43 attempts at Los Angeles.
The Kings trailed 105-102 with 1:19 left following a Jumaine Jones three-
pointer. But Sacramento ended the game on a 7-1 run to post the victory.
Kobe Bryant had 40 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and two blocked shots
for the Lakers, who have lost just two of their last six games.
Chris Mihm had 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss, while Brian Cook
chipped in with 15 points and six boards.
Stojakovic nailed a pair of free throws to put Sacramento up 109-106 with 6.7
seconds left. Bryant then missed a three-pointer for the Lakers, but Doug
Christie got the rebound and stepped on the end line, giving the Lakers the
ball back with 2.1 seconds left. But all LA could muster on the inbounds pass
was a 35-foot shot by Odom between the top of the key and the halfcourt line,
and his bank attempt was off the mark.
The Lakers will complete their four-game homestand with Sunday’s game against
the lowly New Orleans Hornets. LA posted a win in New Orleans on November 9
and has won four of the last six matchups.
