(Sports Network) – The Detroit Pistons found themselves on the wrong end of a
72-68 decision against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday at the FedExForum.
Rasheed Wallace, who missed Friday’s 88-72 loss to Atlanta with a hamstring
injury, led the Pistons with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Richard Hamilton
netted 18 points in defeat.
After Chauncey Billups sank two foul shots with 36 seconds left to tie the
score, Memphis’ Mike Miller launched a three-point attempt that caromed off
the rim. Hamilton was then called for grabbing Shane Battier’s jersey in the
scramble for the rebound and the former Duke star made both bonus attempts to
put the hosts in front.
Detroit had two final chances, but Wallace’s shot from beyond the arc
missed the mark and Tayshaun Prince had his putback effort blocked by Pau
Gasol with five seconds on the clock. Battier pulled down the rebound and then
sealed the win by canning his final two foul shots.
The Pistons return to action on Wednesday against the New York Knicks.
