(Sports Network) – New York lost on Wednesday when Chauncey Billups hit a
pair of free throws with 2.6 seconds remaining to lift the Detroit Pistons to
a 94-93 win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Jamal Crawford had a team-high 25 points, but missed a key jumper with six
seconds left that could have extended the Knicks’ one-point lead. However, the
rebound went to the Pistons and Billups was fouled by Stephon Marbury on the
Marbury, whose desperation runner from the foul line as time expired missed,
ended with 18 points and seven assists. Allan Houston came off the bench for
17 points, as New York’s guards combined for 62 points.
Crawford has scored 25 or more points in three straight games. He is averaging
28.7 points and 3.3 assists in that span.
The Knicks are off until Friday when they visit Allen Iverson and the
Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center. It will be the second meeting of
the season between the clubs. On November 9, the Knicks defeated Philadelphia,
96-88, at Madison Square Garden.
