New York Knicks Team Report – January 2

=== New York Knicks Team Report – January 2 ===

(Sports Network) – The New York Knicks found themselves on the wrong end of a
93-87 decision against the New Jersey Nets on Saturday at Madison Square
Garden.

Stephon Marbury had a game-high 31 points and dished out eight assists, but it
wasn’t enough as the Knicks fell behind by as many as 18 points in the first
half and never recovered.

Nazr Mohammed added 18 points and 13 boards for New York, which had a three-
game win streak halted.

To start the final frame, a Trevor Ariza jumper early on drew the Knicks
within 65-60. Then, after the Nets came up empty at the offensive end, Mike
Sweetney had a chance to draw the Knicks to three, but he missed two free
throws and New Jersey took advantage.

The Nets responded by scoring 10 straight points to increase their lead back
to 15 points. Five different New Jersey players scored during the burst with
Nenad Krstic capping it with a bucket at the 7:20 mark.

The Knicks later drew within five a number of times down the stretch, but
couldn’t get any closer.

After scoring just 38 points in a three-game stretch, Marbury has responded
with 97 points in his last three games and has shot 35-of-59 from the field in
those contests.

New York, which is in the midst of a three-game homestand, will return to
action on Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings.
