Okafor and Udrih named Rookies of the Month
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Charlotte Bobcats forward/center Emeka Okafor
and San Antonio Spurs guard Beno Udrih were named Eastern and Western
Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in December.
Okafor, who also captured the monthly honor for November, has a current
double-double streak of 19 games that dates back to November 21. He finished
December as the only NBA player to record a double-double in every game played
in the month.
Okafor ranks first among rookies in scoring (18.1 ppg), rebounding (13.3 rpg)
and minutes played (38.9 mpg). The second overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft
pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds against New York on December 4 and
netted a career-high 27 points versus Seattle on December 31.
Udrih ranks second among rookies in field goal percentage (.534) and three-
point field goal percentage (.500). He leads Western Conference rookies in
scoring (6.6 ppg) and is second in assists (3.0 apg). Udrih’s best game in
December occurred on the 30th, when he collected 12 points and 10 assists in a
win at Portland.
Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month were
Dallas’ Devin Harris, New Jersey’s Nenad Krstic, Orlando’s Dwight Howard and
Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala.
