(Sports Network) – The Knicks dropped an 86-84 decision to the Chicago Bulls
at the United Center on Saturday night.
Leading New York, which has lost six of its last seven, was Stephon Marbury,
who netted a game-high 25 points and dished out 10 assists. Trevor Ariza
recorded 18 points and Kurt Thomas added 15 points, eight rebounds and six
rebounds in the win.
With the score tied 84-84, Ariza had his shot blocked by Andres Nocioni,
setting up a fastbreak that ended with Eddy Curry’s layup to give the Bulls
the lead with 2.4 seconds remaining.
On the ensuing possession, New York fed Nazr Mohammed in the post, but his
last-ditch attempt was blocked by Tyson Chandler, who collected 10 rebounds
and four blocks.
Jamal Crawford did not play Saturday due to a turf toe injury. He has been out
since Dec. 22. There was a rumored chance that Crawford could return to the
court prior to the game.
Tim Thomas, who has an injured knee, did not play for New York. Michael
Sweetney, who has been sidelined for four games with an ankle injury, scored
nine points before fouling out on Saturday.
The Knicks, who have lost three of their last four at home, are 11-7 at
Madison Square Garden this season.
Saturday’s game was the first of a home-and-home that will finish up in the
Big Apple on Monday afternoon.
