Bobcats’ Okafor placed on IL
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) – Charlotte Bobcats forward Emeka Okafor
was placed on the injured list Tuesday with a sprained left ankle.
Okafor, the second overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, landed awkwardly on the
ankle late in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Following the loss to the Lakers, the club announced that he would probably be
able to play on Tuesday. However, the ankle got worse during the night and he
sat out practice on Monday.
He was the only Charlotte player to have started the first 41 games this
season. The University of Connecticut product leads the Bobcats in both
scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.9 points and 11.1 boards per contest.
The Bobcats activated center Jahidi White off the injured list to replace
Okafor on the roster. White has appeared in 16 games this season with averages
of 2.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 8.0 minutes. He was placed on the injured
list on January 19 with a right shoulder strain and last appeared on January
17 against Milwaukee.
