Miami, FL (Sports Network) – The Miami Heat brought an old face back to the
organization on Thursday, re-acquiring guard Steve Smith from the Charlotte
Bobcats in exchange for forward Malik Allen.

Smith spent his first three-plus seasons in the league with Miami, which
drafted him with the fifth pick in 1991. He has gone on to play for five other
teams, most recently joining the Bobcats in the offseason.

With Charlotte this season, he averaged 7.9 points in 37 games. For his
career, Smith has averaged 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 13
seasons.

“We are very excited to welcome back Steve to the Heat organization,” said
team president Pat Riley. “In addition to him being a great shooter and his
ability to play multiple positions, he also brings great character and veteran
leadership to our team. This move also enables us to gain more salary cap
flexibility.”

Allen, who joined the Heat in 2001, has averaged 7.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and
22.1 minutes in 151 games with Miami.
