out eight assists and hauled down six rebounds to lead Miami over New Jersey,
106-90, at the Continental Airlines Arena. Shaquille O’Neal, who had missed
Miami’s last three contests with a left knee injury, ended with 20 points
and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Heat, who have won three in a row. Eddie
Jones added 15 points and Udonis Haslem chipped in 13 in the win. Miami also
welcomed center Alonzo Mourning, who was signed by the club on Tuesday.
However, the veteran only saw two minutes in garbage time against his former
team. Vince Carter paced the Nets with 27 points. Ron Mercer came off the
bench to score 12, while Nenad Krstic contributed 11 in the loss.

Denver Nuggets downed the Indiana Pacers, 96-87, at the Pepsi Center.
Francisco Elson added 14 points and Earl Boykins netted 12 to help the Nuggets
win their fifth straight contest. Stephen Jackson scored 16 points and Fred
Jones chipped in 15 for the Pacers, who have dropped three in a row on the
heels of a five-game winning streak. Indiana played the entire second half
without leading scorer Jermaine O’Neal, who went down late in the second
quarter with a sprained right shoulder. O’Neal had 11 points and five rebounds
before leaving the contest.

rebounds and Steve Nash added 16 points and 14 assists in his return to the
lineup, as the Phoenix Suns rallied to defeat the Detroit Pistons, 100-97, at
America West Arena. Quentin Richardson netted 20 points and Shawn Marion
added 13 points and 11 boards for the Suns, who rebounded from Saturday’s
overtime loss to Boston and won for the fifth time in seven games. Nash
missed the last three contests with a sore hamstring and hadn’t played
since the All-Star Game. Rasheed Wallace finished with 22 points and 13
rebounds for the Pistons, who had their winning streak halted at eight games.
Chauncey Billups registered 17 points in the loss and Richard Hamilton added
16 points and nine assists.
