Pacers forward O’Neal placed on injured list

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) – Indiana Pacers All-Star forward Jermaine
O’Neal was placed on the injured list Friday with a subluxated sprain of the
right shoulder.

O’Neal sustained the injury in the second quarter of Thursday’s loss to the
Nuggets when he was hit on the right arm by Denver’s Francisco Elson while
driving to the basket.

The 26-year-old O’Neal grabbed the arm in pain, but stayed in the contest and
converted both foul shots with his left hand. He then headed to the locker
room for treatment. An MRI exam on Friday revealed the severity of the injury.

O’Neal finished with 11 points and five rebounds before leaving the contest.
O’Neal, who made the All-Star Game as a reserve this season, is the Pacers’
leading scorer. He is averaging 24.8 points to go along with 9.0 rebounds per
outing.

Meanwhile, the club signed veteran free agent forward Dale Davis and waived
forward Michael Curry.

Davis was selected by the Pacers with the 13th overall pick in the 1991 NBA
Draft and spent nine campaigns with Indiana. He was traded to Portland on
August 31, 2000, in exchange for O’Neal and Joe Kleine.

The 35-year-old Davis was then dealt to Golden State along with Dan Dickau in
July of 2004 for Nick Van Exel. He participated in 36 games for the Warriors
this season before being traded to New Orleans on February 24. He did not see
action with the Hornets and was waived.

In 995 career games, Davis has posted averages of 8.5 points and 8.2 boards
per contest.
