Magic’s Christie placed on IL; surgery likely
East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) – The Orlando Magic placed Doug Christie
on the injured list before Saturday’s game in New Jersey, and general manager
John Weisbrod announced that the guard/forward may need surgery for the bone
spurs in his left ankle.
“He has concerns in regards to…his ability to play,” said Weisbrod, who met
with Christie Saturday afternoon in New Jersey. “In conjunction with our
medical staff, he will seek further consultation and surgery seems likely.”
Christie has averaged just 5.7 points and 25 minutes in 21 games with the
Magic since being acquired from Sacramento for Cuttino Mobley and Michael
Bradley on January 10.
In 52 games with the Kings and Magic this season, the 34-year-old Christie is
averaging a combined 6.6 points, 3.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest.
The Magic activated center Mario Kasun from the injured list to fill
Christie’s roster spot. Kasun, who missed 21 games with left knee patella
tendinitis, is averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 25 games this season.
