(Sports Network) – Orlando is reeling with four consecutive losses, including
a 98-82 defeat to the New Jersey Nets at TD Waterhouse Centre on Sunday.
Grant Hill and Hedo Turkoglu led the Magic with 23 points apiece. Hill, who
returned after missing three straight games due to a bruised shin, also pulled
down seven boards.
Jameer Nelson netted 13 points, while Steve Francis had 11 points and 10
assists before being ejected late in the fourth quarter. Francis shot just 3-
of-15 from the field in the defeat.
Orlando managed to shoot just 38.3 percent from the field in the contest,
including 7-of-16 (.438) from three-point range. The Magic didn’t miss in 13
opportunities from the free throw line.
Orlando remains in a tie for seventh in the East with Indiana, 1 1/2 games
ahead of the scuffling Philadelphia 76ers. The Magic is two contests back of
sixth place Chicago.
The Magic now begin a brutal five-game West coast road trip, including a
contest against Sacramento on Tuesday. Orlando will also play Los Angeles
(Wednesday), Seattle (Friday) and Portland (Saturday) this week on the road.
Orlando is ninth in the league in scoring (99.6 ppg) and 26th in opponents’
scoring (100.6 ppg). The Magic is 10th in the league in shooting percentage
(.453) and 13th in opponent’s shooting percentage (.444).
