(Sports Network) – The Knicks will attempt to take advantage of the Tim
Duncan-less San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden this evening. Duncan is
out with a severely sprained ankle.
New York has lost three of its last four games, including a 97-82 defeat to
the Miami Heat on Saturday. Stephon Marbury scored 23 points and Jamal
Crawford had 20 for the Knicks in the contest.
Marbury continues to lead the Knicks in points (21.1) and assists (8.1) per
contest. Crawford is tacking on 17.3 points and 4.2 helpers per game.
Malik Rose came off the bench with 11 points, while Mike Sweetney had 10
points and seven rebounds. Kurt Thomas was the Knicks’ leading rebounder with
11 in the loss.
New York shot just 38.8 percent from the field, including 6-of-21 (.286) from
three-point range. The Knicks hit 10-of-16 (.625) from the free throw line,
while being outrebounded, 51-44.
The Knicks are beginning a two-game homestand tonight. For the year, the
Knicks are 19-14 in their friendly confines. New York has lost two straight
after winning its previous seven home games.
San Antonio won the only other meeting between these teams this season, 99-81,
at the SBC Center on Nov. 16. The Spurs have won five of the last seven
meetings, including two of the last three at MSG.
Following tonight’s game, the Knicks will have a day off before hosting red
hot Boston on Wednesday. New York will then begin a four-game road trip in
Seattle on Friday before battling Portland on Saturday.
