(Sports Network) – New York’s road woes continued on Tuesday night, as it
fell 117-107 to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.
Stephon Marbury scored a season-high 45 points for New York, which went
winless on a four-game road trip and continues to cling to fading playoff
hopes. The Knicks sit six games behind the Philadelphia 76ers with 12 games to
play. New York is 8-27 on the road this season and has lost nine of its last
10 in foreign buildings.
Marbury hit 12-of-22 from the field, including 6-of-8 from beyond the three-
point arc. The Georgia Tech product hit 15-of-16 foul shot attempts, while
dishing out 10 assists and grabbing six rebounds.
Marbury currently ranks third in the league in assists (8.2), sixth in minutes
(40.1) and 16th in scoring (21.8 ppg).
Kurt Thomas added 18 points and 15 rebounds in the losing effort. Jamal
Crawford ended with 16 points and drained 5-of-11 from three-point
range, while Trevor Ariza chipped in 10 points off the pine.
The Knicks shot a solid 46 percent from the field, including 12-of-24 (.500)
from three-point range. However, New York committed an unforgiveable 18
turnovers, which led to 25 Lakers points. The Knicks also hit 25-of-27 (.926)
free throw attempts.
New York now has consecutive days off to gathering itself before hosting New
Jersey on Friday. The Knicks will then close out their week against Milwaukee
at the Bradley Center on Sunday.
