(Sports Network) – The Pacers continue to perform brilliantly without star
forward Jermaine O’Neal, as they have won three straight and 10 of 15 since
O’Neal hit the disabled list.
Indiana extended its success on Sunday, posting a 79-76 victory over the tough
Washington Wizards at the MCI Center. Stephen Jackson and Anthony Johnson each
scored 15 points lead Indiana to the win.
Reggie Miller added 12 points and James Jones chipped in 10 points off the
bench for Indiana. Indiana remains tied with Cleveland for sixth in the
Eastern Conference playoff race.
Trailing 69-61 with 5:27 left in the fourth, Indiana used an 18-5 burst to
take the lead for good. Miller’s two free throws capped the incredible run as
the Pacers grabbed a 79-74 lead with 33 seconds to go.
Indiana’s Fred Jones (shoulder) and Jamaal Tinsley (left foot) did not play in
the contest. Jones is listed as day-to-day, while Tinsley is expected to be
out for awhile.
The Pacers shot just 35.5 from the field, including 7-of-27 (.259) from three-
point range in the win. Indiana drained 18-of-19 (.947) from the free throw
line in the contest, while committing 13 turnovers.
Indiana has a day off before continuing its two-game road swing in New York on
Tuesday night. The Pacers will then host Cleveland (Wednesday), Washington
(Friday) and New York (Sunday) this week. Indiana is 21-14 at home and 17-20
on the road.
