Carter and Davis named NBA Players of the Week
New York, NY (Sports Network) – New Jersey Nets swingman Vince Carter and
Golden State guard Baron Davis were named NBA Eastern and Western
Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, April
4 through Sunday, April 10.
Carter led the Nets to a 3-0 mark last week, as he averaged 34.7 points, 5.3
rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. He scored 32 points on April
7 against New York and then poured in a season-high 45 points to go along with
seven rebounds and four steals in a victory over Boston two days later.
Davis, who earned his second straight weekly honor, posted averages of 28.8
points, 12.0 assists, 6.3 boards and 2.5 steals per game last week, as the
Warriors went 3-1.
On April 5 versus Houston, he contributed a career-high 40 points, 13 assists
and five steals in a triumph over the Rockets. Davis then completed his
stellar week with a 38-point, nine-assist performance during a double-overtime
loss to San Antonio on Sunday.
Others considered for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were
Charlotte’s Emeka Okafor, Denver’s Carmelo Anthony and Andre Miller, Detroit’s
Richard Hamilton, Indiana’s Stephen Jackson, Philadelphia’s Samuel Dalembert
and Allen Iverson and San Antonio’s Tony Parker.
