Celtics forward Walker suspended one game
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Boston Celtics forward Antoine Walker was
handed a one-game suspension by the NBA Friday for making contact with an
official during Boston’s 99-76 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 3 of the
Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Walker got into a shoving match with Pacers forward Jermaine O’Neal with about
four minutes left in Thursday’s game. Walker was tossed from the game after
receiving his second technical following a hard foul on O’Neal.
During the altercation, Walker grabbed referee Tom Washington by the arm in an
attempt to move him out of the way and get to O’Neal, who earlier shoved
Walker in the chest before players from both teams got in the way.
Walker ended with 14 points and nine rebounds for Boston, which trails 2-1 in
the best-of-seven series. O’Neal posted 21 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Game 4, which Walker will view as a spectator, is scheduled for Saturday night
at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
For his role in the altercation, O’Neal was fined $10,000.
