Pistons hold slim lead at halftime

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) – The Detroit Pistons opened with a flurry,
and held on for a 37-35 halftime lead over San Antonio in Game 1 of the NBA
Finals.

The Pistons scored 10 straight points in the first quarter for a 17-4 lead
midway through, using good defense at the other end to create transitional
opportunities on offense.

Richard Hamilton collected the final four points on an acrobatic shot in the
lane and a breakaway layup.

But San Antonio settled down and put together a 13-3 burst to get within 20-17
at the end of the quarter.

The Spurs later tied the game at 33-33 on a pair of Tim Duncan free throws,
but their only lead of the first half was 2-0.

Duncan had 13 points and 13 rebounds in the first half for the Spurs, who shot
35 percent. Chauncey Billups scored 13 to lead the Pistons, who shot 40
percent.
