Houston Rockets 2005 Draft Preview

(Sports Network) – Houston owns the 24th overall pick in this year’s draft.
The Rockets were 51-31 in the 2004-05 campaign, but were ousted in seven games
by Dallas in the first round of the playoffs.

All-Stars Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming are the keys to this franchise. McGrady
led the club in scoring (25.7 ppg) and assists (5.7 apg) in his first year
with the Rockets, while Yao averaged 18.3 points and a team-best 8.4 rebounds
per game. Houston will continue to build its roster around its two stars.

Forward Juwan Howard and veteran guards Mike James, Bob Sura and David Wesley
makeup a decent supporting cast for McGrady and Yao. However, they need some
help.

The Rockets do not have a lot to offer in any type of trade. They will have
to make the most out of their one draft pick. Houston is in the territory
where it will simply pick the best player that is available. Don’t be
surprised if the Rockets decide to select a player that is a project.

Key Player(s): Juwan Howard (Forward), Mike James (Guard), Tracy McGrady
(Forward/Guard), Bob Sura (Guard), David Wesley (Guard), Yao Ming (Center).

Team Needs: A strong rebounder, a forward who knock down the outside shot, and
a point guard.

Draft picks: 1st round (24th overall).
