Memphis, TN (Sports Network) – The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly traded
shooting guard Bonzi Wells to the Sacramento Kings in a three-way deal with
the Utah Jazz
According to Friday’s edition of the Commercial Appeal, Memphis exercised an
$8 million team option on Wells and then sent the disgruntled swingman to the
Kings. Sacramento will then send guard Bobby Jackson to the Grizzlies, while
center Greg Ostertag will land in Utah for his second tour of duty with the
The Jazz will also send guards Raul Lopez and Kirk Snyder along with forward
Chris Borchardt to Memphis.
However, the deal can’t be announced until the NBA’s moratorium is lifted.
The 29-yeard old Wells, averaged 10.5 points per game — his lowest scoring
per-game average since the 1999-2000 season with Portland — in 69 games with
Jackson has been a spark off the Kings bench the past couple seasons, netting
12 points per game last year. Injuries limited his playing time to just 25
games in 2004.
The veteran Ostertag will be reunited with the club that drafted him out of
Kansas back in 1995. Ostertag spent nine seasons with the Jazz before spending
the last two campaigns with the Kings.
Lopez saw limited action with the Jazz last season, playing around 16 minutes
per game. He posted 5.2 points per contest, while proving to be a solid guard
off the bench, as he dished out 4.0 assists per game.
Snyder saw time in 68 games last season with the Jazz, averaging 5.0 points
per game, while Borchardt netted 3.0 points per game in 67 contests.
