Wizards sign forward Blatche
Washington, DC (Sports Network) – The Washington Wizards Tuesday signed
forward Andray Blatche, team President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld
announced. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Blatche, who was selected by the Wizards in the second round (49th overall) in
the 2005 NBA Draft out of South Kent Prep High School in Connecticut, averaged
9.2 points per contest and ranked second on the club with 6.8 rebounds for
Washington’s summer league team in Las Vegas.
“Andray is a talented prospect, who has great size and really understands the
game,” Grunfeld said. “He has displayed a lot of versatility, athleticism and
performed very well for our Summer League Team.”
In 2004-05, the 6-11 forward led his high school team to a 32-9 record as a
fifth-year senior, posting 27.5 ppg, 16 rbg. and 6.0 blocks per contest.
Blatche was named one of 10 finalists for the Naismith Award, given to the
nation’s top high school player.
