Magic waive veteran guard Christie

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) – The Orlando Magic waived guard Doug Christie on
Thursday. The team also stated that Christie will be designated the team’s
amnesty player.

According to the new NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team will be
permitted to waive one “amnesty” player on or before August 15, 2005 and to
remove that player’s salary from its payroll for purposes of computing its tax
payment for the 2005-06 season and any future seasons for which the player was
under contract.

During the 2004-05 season, Christie was dealt from Sacramento to Orlando in
exchange for Cuttino Mobley and Michael Bradley. In 52 games with the Kings
and Magic this past season, the 35-year-old Christie averaged 6.6 points, 3.8
assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest.

For his career Christie has averaged 11.4 ppg and 4.2 rpg to go along with
3.7 assists with the Lakers, Knicks, Toronto, Sacramento and the Magic.
