Timberwolves sign center Jones

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) – The Minnesota Timberwolves signed free
agent center/forward Dwayne Jones on Friday. Terms of the deal were not
released.

The rookie out of Saint Joseph’s left the university after his junior season,
averaging 7.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.37 blocks per contest in 98 career
games as a Hawk.

“Dwayne is an athletic big man that we believe has a tremendous amount of
potential,” Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale
said. “He excels on the defensive end of the floor with his shot blocking and
rebounding ability. Dwayne was a player that continually improved over the
course of his college career, and we believe he has the ability to play in the
NBA.”

In his last season at Saint Joseph’s, Jones was named the Atlantic 10
Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He then played for Minnesota’s 2005
Summer League squad and started all five games.
