Finley stays in Texas, signs with Spurs
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) – The San Antonio Spurs have signed
swingman Michael Finley, the team announced Friday. Per club policy, terms of
the deal were not released.
The two-time All-Star averaged 15.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game with the
Dallas Mavericks in 2004-05 but was waived by the team in August.
“We are extremely pleased to have a player of Michael’s caliber joining our
franchise,” said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. “He brings an All-Star level
of talent to the floor and a high degree of character to the locker room.”
The 32-year-old Finley has averaged 19 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists
per game in 735 regular season contests with Dallas and the Phoenix Suns. In
the postseason, Finley has started 56 career games, all with Dallas, and
netted 17.8 ppg to along with 5.2 rpg.
Phoenix drafted the 6-foot-7, 225-pound Finley 21st overall in the 1995 draft
and he was obtained by Dallas in December, 1996.
