Nuggets’ Nene out for season

Denver, CO (Sports Network) – Denver Nuggets forward/center Nene is expected
to miss the remainder of the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament,
a medial collateral ligament sprain and a lateral meniscus tear in his right
knee.

Nene was hurt in the first quarter of Tuesday’s season-opening 102-91 loss at
San Antonio, and an MRI on Wednesday revealed the extent of his injury. Nene
banged knees with the Spurs’ Tim Duncan on a baseline drive in the opening
quarter.

A future date for surgery will be set for Nene, who has appeared in 213 games
for the Nuggets over his career, averaging 10.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per
game. In 55 games last season, he contributed 9.6 points and 5.9 boards per
contest.

On Wednesday, the Nuggets moved Nene to the inactive list and transferred
forward Linas Kleiza to the active list.
