Heat, 105-102, at AmericanAirlines Arena. Ron Artest, in his second game back
from last season’s 73-game suspension, had 22 points, as five Pacers scored in
double figures. Jamaal Tinsley chipped in 13 points and six assists for
the Pacers, which completed a two-game sweep of the Sunshine State,
defeating Orlando in their season opener. Indiana has beaten Miami in 13 of
the last 14 regular season meetings. Dwyane Wade had a game-high 31 points
and Shaquille O’Neal had 18 points and six rebounds before he left the game
in the fourth quarter with a right ankle sprain. Shaq is considered day-to-day
with his injury.

down 11 rebounds, as the Phoenix Suns held off a late charge to defeat the Los
Angeles Lakers, 122-112, at the Staples Center. Steve Nash had 12 points and
17 assists, and James Jones added 17 points for the Suns, who posted their
first victory of the season after losing at home to Dallas in double overtime
on Tuesday. The Suns beat the Lakers for the fifth straight time. Kobe Bryant
totaled 39 points, seven rebounds and five assists, but the Lakers failed to
give Phil Jackson a win in his first home game since his return. Lamar Odom
had 23 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists, and Smush Parker tallied 21
points for the Lakers, who began their season with an overtime victory at
Denver Wednesday night. The Lakers lost for just the second time in their last
14 home openers.
