Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) – Elton Brand had 23 points and seven rebounds to
lead the Los Angeles Clippers over the Atlanta Hawks, 102-95, at Philips
Arena. Sam Cassell added 21 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the
Clippers, who have won two straight and five of their six games this
season. The Clippers’ franchise, dating back to the days when they were the
Buffalo Braves (1970-78) and the San Diego Clippers (1978-84) before coming
to LA, started the season 5-1 just once in 1985-86 when they won five in a
row to start the year only to lose their next eight contests. Corey Maggette
recorded 17 points for Los Angeles, which has won six straight against
Atlanta, including a series sweep this year. Joe Johnson had 24 points and
10 rebounds for the Hawks, who are winless in five games this season. Zaza
Pachulia added 16 points, 13 rebounds and six assists for Atlanta, which had
dropped a 92-77 decision to the Clippers in LA on November 4.

seven assists to lead the Miami Heat over the Houston Rockets, 88-84, at
AmericanAirlines Arena. Alonzo Mourning added 13 points, nine rebounds and
three blocks for the Heat, who have won two of three to move to the .500
mark for the season at 3-3. Jason Williams also had 13 points for Miami,
which gave head coach Stan Van Gundy a 3-2 lead in the coaching series against
his brother Jeff. Yao Ming had 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Rockets, who
have dropped three straight after winning their season opener. Derek
Anderson added 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for Houston, which has
dropped three in a row in Miami with Jeff Van Gundy as head coach.

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) – Richard Hamilton scored 12 of his 18 points in
the fourth quarter to lead the Detroit Pistons over the Phoenix Suns, 111-104,
at America West Arena. Hamilton hit the game-tying basket and go-head jumper
for the Pistons, who are the only undefeated team in the league (5-0) and
continue their best start to a season since beginning the 1988-89 campaign
8-0. Chauncey Billups, who hit a three-pointer to put the nail in the coffin,
had a season-high 27 points and 11 assists for Detroit, which wraps up a
three-game road trip on Friday in Portland. Tayshaun Prince also had 18
points, Rasheed Wallace tallied 16 points and seven boards and Ben Wallace
had 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Pistons, who have scored over 100
points in four of their five games this season and allowed over 88 points for
the first time this year. Leandro Barbosa had 21 points off the bench to lead
the Suns, who have dropped two in a row. Steve Nash had 18 points and eight
assists for Phoenix, which lost to the Pistons for the sixth time in eight
meetings.
