Okur leads Jazz past winless Raptors

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – Mehmet Okur scored 29 points and grabbed 12
rebounds as the Utah Jazz kept the Toronto Raptors winless with a 99-84
victory at Air Canada Centre.

Andre Owens and Deron Williams each came off the bench to score 15 points in
the Utah victory. Williams also dished out a season-high six assists.

Chris Bosh had 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the Toronto loss,
the club’s fifth straight to begin the season. Matt Bonner netted 15 points
while shooting 3-of-4 from the three point line in the setback.

The Raptors extended the worst start to a season in franchise history.

Trailing 21-18 after the first quarter, Utah came back in the second by using
a big run that gave the Jazz a lead the team would not relinquish. With 5:38
left in the period, Kris Humphries made his second consecutive jump shot to
cap off a lengthy 13-0 run, which put Utah up 31-23.

The Jazz would end up outscoring Toronto 27-14 in the quarter to give them
a 45-35 lead heading into the locker room.

Utah extended the lead in the third quarter, as Williams nailed a 15-foot jump
shot with around six minutes left to make it 61-45. The Raptors, though, would
pull within 10 points to close out the period, courtesy of Jose Calderon’s
three-point play that trimmed the deficit to 68-58.

The Raptors did get within 92-84 on Bonner’s jump shot from just inside the
three-point line late in the game, but the home team would get no closer. Okur
would respond by scoring five straight points down the stretch before Andrei
Kirilenko capped the scoring with a pair of free throws.
