Jazz go for third win a row when they host Golden State
(Sports Network) – The Utah Jazz go for their third straight victory tonight,
as they welcome the Golden State Warriors to the Delta Center.
This is the second meeting of the season between the clubs. On November 4th,
Mehmet Okur poured in 23 points, 19 of which came in the second half, and
pulled down 14 rebounds as Utah downed Golden State, 91-85, at The Arena in
Utah has won three of five and four of the last seven meetings in this series,
while Golden State has won five of nine and six of the last 11 contests.
The Jazz begin a three-game homestand tonight. On Tuesday, Okur scored 24
points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Utah to a 93-87 victory over the
Seattle SuperSonics at KeyArena.
Gordan Giricek finished with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the win over
Seattle for the Jazz, who nearly squandered a 16-point fourth quarter lead
before sealing the win with solid free throw shooting down the stretch.
Devin Brown and Milt Palacio led a strong Utah bench with 14 and 12 points, as
the Jazz posted their second straight impressive victory after losing five
straight. Utah crushed the Milwaukee Bucks, 100-80, on Monday in front of its
Utah, which is scheduled to host the Indiana Pacers and the Los Angeles Lakers
on the current stand, is 2-3 as the host this season.
The Warriors play on the road before returning home to play six consecutive
games. On Wednesday, Tim Duncan had 19 points and 12 rebounds, leading the
world champion San Antonio Spurs to a 113-89 demolition of Golden State at The
Arena in Oakland.
Troy Murphy recorded a game-high 27 points in the loss to San Antonio for
Golden State, which has dropped two of its last three games overall. Rookie
Ike Diogu had 11 points off the bench and Jason Richardson finished with 10
points, as Golden State fell behind early and never recovered.
Golden State, which will host Toronto, New Orleans/Oklahoma City, Sacramento,
Charlotte, Phoenix and Detroit during its upcoming homestand, is 3-3 on the
road this season.
