Marquee matchup: Pistons vs. Clippers

(Sports Network) – The red-hot Detroit Pistons go for their sixth straight
victory when they travel to Los Angeles to meet the surprising Clippers at the
Staples Center.

This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. The Pistons
are scheduled to host the Clippers on February 8, 2006 at The Palace of Auburn
Hills.

The home team has won seven of the last nine meetings, while Detroit has won
five straight and six of the last seven contests in this series. The Pistons
have won two straight after losing their last three at the Clippers.

Detroit plays the third contest of a four-game road trip. On Friday, Chauncey
Billups scored 29 points and hit two big free throws down the stretch to lift
the Pistons past the Golden State Warriors, 106-103, at The Arena in Oakland.

Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace each netted 22 points in the win over
Golden State for the Pistons, who have won six of their last seven games
overall. Hamilton added six assists, while Wallace finished with eight
rebounds.

Tayshaun Prince scored 15 points on Friday for Detroit, which has won
four in a row on the road.

The Pistons are 9-1 on the road this season. They closeout the road trip on
Monday against the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center.

The Clippers try to wrap up their five-game homestand with an undefeated
record. On Saturday, Elton Brand led a balanced Los Angeles attack with 27
points, 13 rebounds and six assists, as the Clippers beat the injury-riddled
Phoenix Suns, 101-91, in a Pacific Division battle at the Staples Center.

Cuttino Mobley added 25 points and Sam Cassell scored 24 for the Clippers, who
won their fourth straight contest, snapped Phoenix’s nine-game winning streak
and moved into first place in the division, a game ahead of the Suns.

Center Chris Kaman had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Los Angeles, which halted
a four-game skid against the Suns. The Clippers held Phoenix to 42 percent
shooting from the field.

The Clippers are 9-1 as the host this season. After tonight’s game the
Clippers hit the road for a pair of contests against the Charlotte Bobcats and
the Memphis Grizzlies.
