Iverson, Brand selected as NBA’s top players
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson and Los
Angeles Clippers forward Elton Brand have been selected as the NBA’s top
players for the week ending December 11.
Iverson notched Eastern Conference honors by averaging 36 points, eight
assists and 2.3 steals in three games. He posted back-to-back 40-point games,
marking the fifth and sixth times he has reached that plateau this season.
After scoring 23 points in a loss to Milwaukee on December 7, Iverson poured
in 43 points in a victory over Charlotte on December 9 and followed it up with
42 points and 12 assists in a win over New Jersey the next night.
Brand was chosen for the Western Conference award for the second time this
year. He averaged 31 points, 11.5 rebounds and four blocks to help the
Clippers win three of their four games last week.
On December 5 in a victory against Miami, Brand registered 37 points on 16-
of-23 shooting while collecting 12 rebounds and six blocked shots. He
added double-doubles in the remaining three games of the week.
Other nominees for the weekly award included Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Denver’s
