Davis lifts Warriors over Rockets

Houston, TX (Sports Network) – Baron Davis scored 23 points and dished out
seven assists to lead the Golden State Warriors over the Houston Rockets,
94-89, at the Toyota Center.

Jason Richardson added 22 points for the Warriors, who withstood a late run by
the Rockets to capture their third straight win.

Tracy McGrady scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Houston, which has
dropped five straight and fell eight games under .500 this season (10-18).
McGrady scored 16 of his points during the late-game run, but the Rockets ran
out of time.

With the Warriors leading 87-74 midway through the final quarter, the Rockets
began to mount a comeback. McGrady spearheaded a 15-3 run with 12 points to
draw Houston within one, 90-89. He capped the burst with three free throws
with 18 seconds left and he then had a chance to tie the contest.

Following a pair of Derek Fisher free throws that extended the lead to three
points with 14 ticks on the clock, McGrady had two chances to send the game
into overtime.

He first missed a three-pointer with about 12 seconds left. Then, after John
Lucas grabbed the rebound and got the ball back to the All-Star, McGrady again
missed a long-range jumper with four seconds left. Lucas again got the board,
but stepped out of bounds.

Stromile Swift had 17 points and 13 boards for the Rockets, who have dropped
three in a row at home.

Ike Diogu had 13 points and Troy Murphy went for 12 points and seven boards
for Golden State, which completed the Texas two step undefeated. The Warriors
beat the Mavs in Dallas on Friday night, 111-109.

Golden State never trailed in the contest, leading 23-18 after one quarter and
49-44 at the break. After three quarters the Warriors led 74-66.

Golden State shot 37.8 percent for the game…Houston hit 41 percent of
its shots…Houston fell to 3-9 at home…Golden State improved to 8-7 on
the road…These two teams have split the two meetings this season.
