Alphabet Soup: SBC becomes AT&T Center
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) – The San Antonio Spurs will play all of
their home contests in the newly-named AT&T Center, after SBC Communications
Inc. recently acquired the AT&T Corporation.
Representatives from Bexar County, the Spurs, the San Antonio Stock Show and
Rodeo and AT&T unveiled the new AT&T Center logo on Wednesday.
“The Spurs are an international team, and we are thrilled that our home now
reflects such an internationally recognized brand,” Spurs chairman Peter Holt
said. “AT&T is a terrific partner, and we are grateful for the company’s
commitment to the Spurs and the San Antonio community.”
The Spurs and what is now AT&T Inc. announced a 20-year $41 million naming-
rights sponsorship agreement in July of 2000. The $175 million facility opened
in September 2002, and San Antonio has won two NBA championships in their
first three seasons in the building.
