Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Mehmet Okur scored 25 points, pulled down
eight rebounds and dished out eight assists, as Utah overcame a 46-point
performance from Allen Iverson to beat the Philadelphia 76ers, 110-102, at the
Andrei Kirilenko added 23 points and had four blocked shots, including one at
a key moment late in the fourth quarter for the Jazz, who have won three in a
row and eight of their last nine. Utah’s bench dominated the Sixers,
outscoring them, 44-6. Milt Palacio had 17 points and Matt Harpring added 14
in reserve roles for the Jazz.
Gordan Giricek contributed 16 points for Utah, which shot 58.8 percent from
Iverson had another solid outing with his ninth game of at least 40 points
this season. He shot 16-of-25 from the field and had nine assists, but the
Sixers lost for the fifth time in seven games. Iverson had 41 in a 107-98 win
over Seattle on Monday.
Chris Webber scored 21 points, but missed a pair of three-pointers with less
than a minute left, as Philadelphia wasted a nine-point lead.
Kyle Korver’s basket to start the fourth quarter gave the Sixers a 76-75 lead,
but Utah went ahead for good with a 12-2 spurt. Palacio hit two free throws to
cap the rally with 8:53 remaining.
The Sixers got as close as four points, as a Korver three-pointer made it
102-98 with 1:27 left. Iverson then stole the ball, but Kirilenko blocked a
layup attempt by Andre Iguodala.
Palacio then hit two free throws with 57.2 seconds left, and after Webber
missed a pair of long distance shots, Kirilenko added two more foul shots for
a 106-98 advantage.
Iverson drained a three-pointer with 26.5 seconds remaining, but Okur sealed
Utah’s win with two more free throws less than a second later.
The Jazz were ahead 29-24 after the opening quarter, but the Sixers rallied
for a 51-48 lead at the half. An Iguodala jumper extended Philadelphia to a
65-56 advantage midway through the third, but the Jazz grabbed a 75-74 edge
going into the fourth.
Utah has won five of the last six meetings and 10 of the last 13. The Jazz
have won seven of the last nine at Philadelphia…The Sixers are 0-12 when
trailing with five minutes left in the game…The Sixers are 1-11 when
trailing going into the final quarter, while Utah is 12-2 when leading
entering the fourth period…This was Utah’s biggest point production of the
season and the first road game with at least 100 points…Utah has won a
season-high three in a row on the road.
