Magic run past Bobcats
Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) – Hedo Turkoglu came off the bench to net a
game-high 24 points, as the Orlando Magic defeated the Charlotte Bobcats,
104-93, at Bobcats Arena.
Dwight Howard added 19 points with 21 rebounds for the Magic, who have won
their last two games.
In his second game since returning from a suspension, Steve Francis had 13
points and dished out six assists in the victory.
Keith Bogans came off the bench to score 19 points for the Bobcats, who have
lost six in a row. Brevin Knight added 17 points and seven assists in defeat.
Charlotte’s leading scorer Gerald Wallace left the game in the third quarter
after suffering a left knee injury. The forward was fouled by Tony Battie in
the act of shooting and dropped to the floor in pain. He stayed down for
several minutes before being helped off the court.
The Bobcats led by two points early in the first quarter, but it was all
Orlando the rest of the way.
Led by Howard’s eight points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field, Orlando had a
27-21 edge after the opening period of play.
The Magic went on to outscore Charlotte 28-22 in the second stanza to take a
55-43 lead into halftime. Turkoglu paced Orlando with 14 points, including
hitting 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
As a team, the Magic shot 57.5 percent from the floor in the first half.
To open the third quarter, Orlando went on an 18-9 spurt that was capped by
DeShawn Stevenson’s layup for a 73-52 advantage. The Magic would eventually
take a commanding 83-65 lead into the final quarter of action.
Early in the fourth period, Francis hit two free throws to widen the lead
to 90-70 and Orlando cruised to the win.
The Magic improved to 5-13 on the road this season…Orlando is now 4-3 all-
time versus Charlotte…The Magic shot 48.6 percent from the field while the
Bobcats shot 39.5 percent…Charlotte dropped to 7-12 at home this
season…Orlando was 25-of-33 from the charity stripe, while the Bobcats were
a dismal 19-of-35 at the foul line.
