Pacers’ O’Neal to miss eight weeks

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) – Indiana Pacers standout forward Jermaine
O’Neal is expected to miss at least eight weeks with what team officials
describe as a significant left groin tear.

The Pacers hope O’Neal can return for a final playoff push in late March. The
All-Star said he would not hurry his return because he believes the injury
occurred from coming back too soon from an ankle injury, which sidelined him
for three games.

The Pacers leading scorer (20.9), rebounder (9.8) and shot-blocker (2.2),
O’Neal injured his groin in the fourth quarter of Indiana’s loss at Cleveland
on Tuesday.

It is not expected that O’Neal will need surgery.

Indiana is currently in third place in the NBA’s Central Division with a
21-20 record.
