Top picks Bogut, Howard highlight Rookie Challenge
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Milwaukee Bucks forward Andrew Bogut and
Orlando Magic forward Dwight Howard were among the 19 players selected to
participate in the 2006 Rookie Challenge that will be held Friday, February
17 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Bogut, the first overall pick in 2005, will lead the Rookie squad and will be
joined by guard Chris Paul of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, forward
Charlie Villanueva of the Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets guard Luther
Also being named to the Rookie team were forward Danny Granger and guard
Sarunas Jasikevicius of the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks forward Channing
Frye and guard Nate Robinson and guard Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz.
Joining Howard, the top pick in 2004, on the Sophomore team will be forward
Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks guard T.J. Ford,
center Nenad Krstic of the New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic guard Jameer Nelson
and guard Devin Harris of the Dallas Mavericks.
In addition, guards Luol Deng and Ben Gordon and forward Andres Nocioni, all
from the Chicago Bulls, were named to the second-year unit. Charlotte Bobcats
forward Emeka Okafor was also selected, but will not play due to injury.
Detroit Pistons assistant coach Sidney Lowe will lead the Rookie team, while
Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Del Harris will be on the bench for the
Last season, Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets paced the Sophomore team to
a 133-106 victory with 31 points while earning the Most Valuable Player award.
The Sophomores have won the last three contests.
The matchup is a prelude to the NBA All-Star game, scheduled to take place on
February 19th at the Toyota Center.
