Arenas, Parker awarded NBA weekly honors
New York, NY (Sports Network) – The Washington Wizards’ Gilbert Arenas and
San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker were named the NBA’s Eastern and
Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the week
ending February 12th.
The Wizards posted a 4-0 record behind Arenas’ averages of 31.8
points, 7.3 assists and 2.3 steals. Arenas put up his sixth 40-plus-point
effort of the season by scoring 45 in a win over the Warriors on Wednesday.
He collected his sixth double-double of the season by tallying 32 points and
dishing out 10 assists in a victory over Cleveland.
Parker led the Spurs, who are in the middle of an eight-game road trip, to a
3-0 record for the week. He averaged 22.7 points and 8.3 assists as San
Antonio racked up road wins over Toronto, New Jersey and Indiana.
Parker’s performance allowed the Spurs to extend their road winning streak to
a franchise-best nine games.
Other nominees for the weekly awards included Boston’s Paul Pierce,
Indiana’s Stephon Jackson, Miami’s Dwyane Wade, Phoenix’s Steve Nash and Shawn
Marion, Golden State’s Jason Richardson and Houston’s Yao Ming.
