Tomjanovich named director of scouting for USA Basketball

Colorado Springs, CO (Sports Network) – Jerry Colangelo, managing director
of the USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team, announced Wednesday the
naming of Rudy Tomjanovich as director of scouting.

Tomjanovich was head coach of the 2000 Olympic squad that brought home a gold
medal and is a former head coach with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles
Lakers.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be working with USA Basketball again,” said
Tomjanovich. “I’m very grateful to Jerry Colangelo for this important
assignment and I believe that my experience coaching international basketball
and my experience with advance scouting throughout my career will help me
fulfill this responsibility and help Coach K and his staff bring back the
gold.”

In addition to leading the USA to a perfect 8-0 mark and the gold in 2000,
Tomjanovich also served as head coach for the United States in the 1998 World
Championships, where he led the Americans to a 7-2 record and a bronze medal.

“By selecting Rudy, we are getting someone who brings impressive credentials.
His accomplishments as a NBA player, NBA head coach and as a USA Basketball
head coach are tremendous,” Colangelo said.

For his NBA career, “Rudy T” has compiled a 525-416 mark as a head coach with
both the Rockets and Lakers. His coaching career was highlighted by back-to-
back NBA titles with Houston in 1994 and 1995 and his 525 wins are good for
22nd place on the all-time list for head coaches.
