Garnett, Timberwolves defeat Warriors

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) – Kevin Garnett had a monster game with 23
points and 21 rebounds to lead Minnesota over Golden State, 103-90, at the
Target Center.

Ricky Davis added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Timberwolves, who won
for the third time in their past four outings. Trenton Hassell pitched in with
15 points while Marcus Banks had 12 points and rookie Rashad McCants tallied
11 in the win.

Jason Richardson was brilliant for the Warriors, who lost for the sixth time
in seven games, with 36 points, six boards and three steals. Mike Dunleavy
added 13 on 6-of-7 shooting and Baron Davis had 12 in the loss.

After a dreadful third quarter Minnesota used a dominant final frame, in which
they doubled up the Warriors 30-15, to gain the victory.

Richardson drained a fadeaway with 4:21 left to deadlock things at 85 but the
‘Wolves responded with a 10-0 flurry over the next two minutes to secure the

Garnett started the burst with a three-point play. Davis soon followed with a
driving layup. McCants then converted another three-point play and Garnett
capped things with a tip-in to make the score 95-85 with 2:24 left.

The Warriors never seriously threatened the rest of the way.

The ‘Wolves took a 26-20 lead after the first 12 minutes and extended that by
a point at intermission, 50-43. Davis paced Minnesota with 13 at the half
while Richardson had 11 for the Warriors.

The Warriors used an explosive third quarter, in which they outscored
Minnesota 32-23, to take a two-point edge, 75-73, into the final frame.

Game Notes

Minnesota dominated the boards with a 52-35 edge…The Timberwolves are now
18-13 at home this season…The Warriors are just 1-11 in their last 12 road
games are 9-18 on the road for the season.
